I just aquired another center console with a Yamaha 2005 250 HPDI. I have read many forums on this motor and have drawn many conclusions.
I am going to take this to my local Yamaha service center and was going to have a service check done.
I was wondering what else I should have them do while they have it. When I aquired this boat and motor I asked what work had ever been done to the motor. I was told nothing and that it may need a set of plugs. They also said sometimes when motoring across the water it would idle back. The remedy was add oil to the reservoir tank and restasrt and go.
I found out through Yamaha that in June 2006 and August 2007 the powerhead was replaced under warranty. No other warranty work since. Warranty went out June 2011. I asked if I could purchase an extension, they said no.
I understand their are many filters that need to be maintained. Which should I have them change?
I was going to wait to hear their conclusion on looking over the motor before I asked for anything specific to be done. I was thinking of having them change lower unit oil, so if it looks unusual they could tell me or tell me if it looks fine. Plug change was another item, so they could look at old ones.
I have always been a preventative maintenance kid of person, so my hope is if they service it now and everything is fine, which I feel it will be, than I can maintain filters and oil changes from here.
My questions are:
What should I have them look for?
What Filters should I ask them to change if they don't find any issues?
Any other things I should ask attention to that I am not thinking of?
...OR does the service check from a Yamaha service cover all this?
Thanks
