Alumacraft FD steering question

I have a 1956 Alumacraft FD with the mid-mount steering console. This, along with the tilt trailer and 1965 Evinrude Fastwin 18 (was purchased with a 35 Evinrude by my Grandfather) has been in my family since 1956 and I want to bring her back to her old glory. She is again waterworthy, but the steering cables and part of the pulley and spring mechanisms are missing. I have found replacements, but have no clue how to wind the cables and install them. HELP!!!!!

Re: Alumacraft FD steering question

HI autoed. Welcome to iboats. Great set up you have there. Hard to beat a 50s era tin boat with an Evinrude 18 hp. Of course, I'm biased because I run almost the same set up. Here are some great links that can show you how to set up the steering, where to get hardware, and how to tune up your motor to keep it running for another 50 years. Good luck. Holler if you get stuck.

Re: Alumacraft FD steering question

Wow...thanks. I will check these out. I have spent hours looking for the "how-to's" on this on the net. My son and I took our FD out for a voyage today on a local stream. Purrs like a kitten at full speed. Won't idle. Carb has been rebuilt so I have some suspicions about point or plug gap. Your links may help! Thanks again. Nice AT!!! I have a good customer that has one, but some idiot hung a newer 25 hp 4-stroke on it.

I have a 1956 Deep C and am looking for pulleys. All I've found are the plastic hook style offered on here. Where did you get yours?
