Mercury Tracker 50 hp revs to full throttle in neutral when started

Hello all, I am new to the site and have found a lot of great information. I am having a problem with my outboard. It is a 2002 Tracker Mercury 50 HP four stroke. As soon as I start the motor, in neutral, it instantly revs up to full throttle. I have checked the throttle cables and idle. I really need to go fishing!! Has anyone had this problem or have any suggestions. Thank you very much.

I had the same problem, I had to reverse the connection at the control. I believe it was connected at the up position then I spun it around 180 degrees and then reconnected it. I have a universal control and a Force motor was hooked up to it and the throttle pushed where the throttle pulls on my Mariner. I don't know if this is the problem you are having but I hope this helps.
