If you look in the upper forward corners of the case halves, you will see a thin piece of spring steel with a slot formed in it for the little pin to fit into.
Item 2 is the thin piece of metal with the slot and item 3 is the pin you have. You slide the pin and the thin pice together into the slot and ensure they stay there while you push to two halves together on their alignment pins.
