3 Port Pollak fuel valve conections?

I have a 3 port Pollak fuel valve in my boat. Lots of wires were diconected behind the dash and my toggle switch for
my tank changeover was disconected. My valve has only two wires. The one is a good ground that I have already checked
and the other black wire goes to the dash. I tested the valve by applying Pos. from the battery and it looks like it works.
I found a wire behind the dash that has Pos. when the key is turned on but I'm scared to connect it and in return ground
something else. Any Thoughts?

The valve needs to connect to a switch -- not a source that turns on and off with the key. Here is a diagram for wiring a simple light. Just replace the light with the valve.

Thanks for the diagram, I will try that this week. I was gone to camp this last weekend and decided to take a break on the boat. Know that my mind is fresh I will follow your diagram and give it a shot.
