You GREAT VOLVO EXPERTS. I need your help PLEASE. I have a 1987 AQ131A w/ 275 outdrive that needs engine TLC. I have an opportunity to get a 1986 2.1L (AQ130 i believe) w/ 270 outdrive that runs great. 1) what are the characteristics of each 2) are the parts ie... head, manifold, ect interchangeable. Desperate for straight answers and info. Thanks and GOD BLESS!

They aren't even close to the same. The 130 is an OHV engine, the 131 is an OHC engine.

The AQ130 is the marinized version of the Volvo B20. Production was discontinued sometime around 1977.

Re: Volvo Penta AQ130 and AQ131 Comparisons

Hey guys, It is the volvo penta that came with the boat ( a 1986 18 ' Bayliner Capri Cuddy). The info id labels and tags have since gone. I am not near the boat to get the info off the block. Am I close to thinking that it is the aq125a? all the owner knows is that he has always been told it was a 2.1 Litre. I know that the aq131a is a 2.3. I am buying the boat for the trailer mainly however, I have an aq131a that i am going to rebuild and would like to know if any parts on the 2.1 will work ie... head n exhaust manifold. Is the aq125a a marine engine unlike the aq131a that was originally intended for a car. Any info on how I can find out what volvo came with this cuddy ( 2.1L isall I know). thanks to all who may help and GOD BLESS! Danny
