GL5 Synthetic is the spec. The Quicksilver High Performance gear lube will be fine, just not the Premium gear lube they sell.

Re: what gear oil to use volvo sx outdrive

Copied directly out of my Volvo SX service manual:

"Change Lubricant Every 100 Hours or Once Each season
Use
Volvo Penta Synthetic Gearcase Lubricant
or
Mobilube 1 SHC Fully Synthetic
SAE 75W-90 gear lubricant

All SX Models 71oz. (2100 cc)"

That Mobil 1 is a standard automotive lubricant. Pretty sure you'll find it there at your Walmart...or at most any auto parts store. But you'll need to look in the auto gear lube section of the store...you won't find it in the marine lubricants aisle...also likely much cheaper than the Quicksilver you're considering.
