Hi boaters :)
I have a 1986 Bayliner, with the 5.0 GM block
MY out drive seems to wore out, bushings and what ever else
wears out.
My question is, should I pay the $2000,00 to get it fixed?
Or get rid of the boat, try and find a used out drive??
Kinda like the boat, but is really squrily, very hard to steer.
Any suggestions :)
Thanks

First thing that is going to be asked is what outdrive do you have and serial numbers of that outdrive. There many differant ones. You might as well get that info posted if you want any help.

in addition to the outdrive numbers, is it the drive itself, or steering that your having problems with?

Thanks for the replys.
Its the steering, it goes from side to side, your on your wheel all the time.
I guess it the bushings, you can grab the drive at the prop, and move it 6 to 8 inches
each way and the wheel don't move.

Replacing the drive sure isn't going to help, and even if it was brand new the boat is still going to wander back and forth. It's just something V hulled boats do.
However you can replace the bushing in the steering and anywhere there is excess play. You just need to look at a parts diagram for whatever engine and drive you have.
Here is a link to the Volvo parts diagrams. You look in the engine section to find the drive and connecting components for your model drive. The connecting components has the steering bushings.

You are going to have to get model numbers for your engine and drive, as Volvo lists nothing by Bayliner nor by year.
