Can someone tell me what the gap should be on the points on a 1982 AQ125 The boat was running last year when parked and now this year it has no spark. I am thinking maybe the coil went out. This is actually my brother's boat. He pulled the points and cleaned the contacts not thinking that they have to be reset when they go back in the distributor. So now before we can confirm that the coil is bad I have to reset the gap.
If only I knew what it is suppose to be.

Re: Points gap

aq125 points gap is 0.016". After setting gap and once the engine is running and warmed up, you then need to check dwell, which is 62 degrees +/-3 deg at idle. Then after that is done you need to check your base timing (idle) which should be 10 deg with total advance of 36 deg at 4000 rpm.
