25 hp mercury will ildle

I'm new on here wanted to know i just brought an 25 hp 2 stoke pull start s\n oc195099 I can get it to start stay running little while then cut off at idle. but run fine when you going down the river. When I got the motor it had old gas in it I have put fresh gas 50:1 mix new spark plugs. Can anybody could help.

Its a 1989. Is it idling at the proper speed? Should be 7-800 RPMs with the motor in the water and in gear. Also may be some trash in the low speed circuits of the carbs.

what would be the best why to get trash out how do i check the rpm on the motor

You will have to put a tach on it. Rebuild the carbs to get them clean inside.
