As far as I know it is called a 5.4HP 1949 Evinrude. Or did I misunderstand your question?

I guess I was looking for any other names it went by, I have been surfing the web looking for one like it and have not seen another one. Are they rare, and is it a motor that is worth messing with far as finding parts for?

I pulled the rope and it feels like it has good compression but that's as far as I have gone. I do not even know where to begin.

Sure it has a name, it's called a Zephyr!

Start by testing compression, if all checks out, time to start going through the checklist. When was it last ran>?

No, that is a 3.3hp Sportwin. Replaced by the 3hp Lightwin in 1952. Similar in appearance, but about the only parts that are interchangeable, are the transom brakets.
