hello, I need some help trying to find a wiring diagram for 1976 mercury 402, I found one at maxrules.com but have some questions about the wiring. It looks like someone tried to repair and put it back together wrong according to the diagram.

When I bought it, there was no spark. I tested the stator, trigger and coils and all tested fine then found that some tried to drill out the bottom of the switch box and twist tied a couple of wires together and just covering it up with black tape. the tape wore off and grounded agaist the cdi housing. all wires were coroded, but in the diagram the trigger wires are moved over one slot on the switch board and the merc switch in a different place aswell. I have bought a new switch box ready to put in.

the diagram also shows a black ground wire coming out of the harness to the solenoid but instead a red wire ran directly into the + side of the rectifier and another wire ran from + post of solenoid to + post of rectifier so two wires on the positive post on rectifier. The diagram shows only one and the red wire coming form the harness should be grounded on the - post of the solenoid and a single wire connecting the solenoid to the positive post on the rectifier. The solenoid is also ground to the motor with a seperate wire on the negitive post.

There was some bare/corroded wires from the stator which made contact to the powerhead but still read good through a ohms test but would it still be bad through a different test? I carefully seperated the wires and covered each one with liquid tape and will heat tape as close to the stator to keep it from grounding Any help will be much appreciated i'm going crazy trying to figure it out.
