I am new to this forum - am a regular on Offshoreonly, The Hull Truth, and a few others. I am relatively new to outboards, but I know hi performance stern drives quite well. Can't believe it took me this long to find this place. Hope I can be helpful, but this time I am looking for help.

Took the boat out last weekend and it ran great. But I had the oil check engine diagnostic lights lite up ever so briefly. Not sure what to check.

Coming up on plane, I heard warning buzzer and out of corner of my eye I first saw the oil light and then the check engine light come on. By the time my eyes got to it, they were out. I also "think" I saw the volt meter drop and tach jump, but not sure.

Later in day, idling along and same thing happened - twice. Didn't even last a second - it was that fast. Still not sure about tach & voltmeter fluctuate. Motor never even hicupped.

When cleaning, that motor had a "tad" bit more black stuff around exhaust that other motor (which was cleaner than usual), but nothing out of the ordinary.

I checked every connection in the power distribution panel - all good - zero corrosion.

Glitch? Something loose? Check ......? Sensor. . . . .?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What is the model number of the outboard. Without that info it is very difficult to help you.

Sounds like you have a loose electrical connection in the charging sysem somewhere or your voltage rectifier/regulator is starting to go . Hopefully someone with Ficht experience will be able to help you out.

When you first start the motor, the engine check should cycle thru all the lights and you should get a short beep from the warning horn. if this is what you are seeing while underway, the System Check Tach may be resetting due to a momentary loss of voltage. This happens on my boat all the time, whenever I hit a bump, and darned if I can find out what causes it.

Correct on 1st start up. However, I am not getting that. First the bottom oil light comes on w/ beep and then the check engine light comes on. Then goes out - very quickly and at no wake speeds - thus no bumping or bouncing.

Try checking your battery. I understand that if a battery is getting old and weak, this can cause problems too.
From my understanding, the Fichts tend to be finicky about the voltage that they are getting.
