Looking to install a set of speakers on my wakeboard tower. I'm not really interested in something loud, just want to hear some music as we sit on our favorite cove and enjoy the water and the kiddos playing. Nothing too expensive, wanting to stay around $300.00 or below for the pair.

Also, is an amp absolutely necessary to push them?

Thanks all....take care.

If you have agood head unit you don't need an amp, i have a Rockford thaty is 4x40 and is stupid load, if you are going to spend money do it on the speakers, even a crappy head unit sounds good through good speakers but it doesn't work the other way around.

Look around on Ebay, I have seen Rockford marine speakers for $20-30 but there are a bunch of brands that are good, just make sure they are marine speakers, maybe check Crutchfield.

You can't go wrong with Polk.. they sound great for the money. Their tweeters seem to be especially crisp and good sounding. Recommended.

You'll want an amp to push them for sure. I highly recommend the MB Quart marine amps. Super durable, conformal coated PCBs, super powerful and pretty much the best bang for the buck in a marine amp.

4 channel for the tower speakers + 2 in boat speakers - http://www.amazon.com/MB-Quart-NAU4...N4WC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335361869&sr=8-1

6 channel for the tower speakers + 4 in boat speakers - http://www.amazon.com/MB-Quart-NAU6...N4WM/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1335361869&sr=8-5

Make sure to use marine grade power cable only! I recommend using copper clad aluminum speaker wire as well.. ongoing tests are showing it to be much better against the elements vs copper only speaker wire: http://www.amazon.com/Mediabridge-G...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1335362008&sr=1-1

late reply but other may read this thread...really good speakers NEED AN AMP...they are too ineficiant for deck power.
