Hi folks,
Fresh and new to these forums. I am a complete newbie to outboards. I recently purchased a 15hp manual mercury outboard. The first day i took out the motor it ran fantastic. I went out a few days ago and this is what happened. I got the motor started. I was in fairly shallow water but enough that i was not touching bottom with the skeg or prop. I put engine in reverse and was moving very slow (Very close to idle speed). My prop ending up hitting a rock and the motor stopped running. Is this suppose to happen? I have inspected the prop and there are just some minor scratches. The prop in neutral spins freely, in forward ratchets (Clicks on every full revolution) and in reverse only moves slightly. Under frustation after my mishap i think i gave the motor to much fuel and flooded the engine? Squeezed the bulb probably to many times and hit the primer quite a bit. The motor after about 30 mins did start, but then died out after about 10 seconds or so. This morning i am going to attempt to start the motor up at home using a barrel of water. I have since also ordered a trolling motor =). Does anyone have any advice or input? Should i pull the plugs and check them? (I have spares) I have been reading through my manual a lot and am still very much in the learning curb. Thanks for any input given. This forum seems like the place to be.
Thanks
Chad
