I think I need to check and clear all water passages on my outboard.

What will I need to take apart to check all water passages? So far all that I can see in the poppet area, thermostats and else where is super clean, no mud sand or corrosion of any type. Freshwater motor only. It dose see quit a bit of vegetation but I am not finding it to be a problem in the engine.

1987 blackmax by the way.

it appears there is a blockages some place. I think the poppet valve is good but water comes out of the small hole on its cover plate. At times water is getting past the gaskets that seal the poppet valve to the engine block.
Gaskets are in pretty good condition with no tears or anything like that.

The pressure there seems to be high.

The problem I have is the engine cools really fast even after a long run at 5000 rpm +. soon as I come off plane the temp gage drops down below 1/4 and the engine runs just like its cold. Sneezes, coughs and dies.
rough idle.
I have to warm it back up to have a good idle again.
The engine runs AWSOME the rest of the time.
