Hello everybody
new to forum
just bought a 17ft manatee with a 1971 merc 1150 need to know if there is an adjustment for the link rod
(located between the trottle lever and the trottle cam) as carburators buterflies not fully opening. Any help greatly apreciated as would like to take it out soon. Looks like previous owner messed with the setting. Do i need to fix this first to set timing?

Thanks

It sounds like you need a Service Manual. There is a link and synch procedure you need to follow, which sets idle timing, max timing minimum and maximum throttle settings. There is a method to set the max carb opening.

The service manual for your engine is P/N: 90-68647

Here is an excellent deal!

Barring that, here is a link to the Clymer condensed version of the manual. Let the page load for several seconds and download soonest to your computer as the link is short lived.

Caution: for the link/synch procedure pay attention to your engine number (1150) as several are included.

Your engine is a model:

1115101 MERCURY 1971 115

Al, a tachometer would wire to +12VDC(white wire), ground(black wire) and the brown wire that goes to the stator. On an older motor like that, you may need to move the tach wire (brown) from the switchbox to the stator. The tach wire will be the brown wire under the red and white harness wires, where they connects to the switchbox.
