alpha 1 gen2 impeller question

I just replaced the impeller for the 1st time since getting this boat and am wondering about the seal that goes over the shaft...it was just sitting on top of the pump housing and fell off when the housing/cover was lifted over the shaft. Its shape looks as if it needs to be pushed into the pump cover?? Can someone shed some light on this?

That is a seal that needs a tool to set at the proper height.
Here is the guide DonS put together that has all the steps.

Thanks for that....anyway to get it done without the tool?

Edit: I just bought the impeller only and I see the kit comes with the seal and tool, so thats what I will pick up tomorrow.

The same question was asked within the last couple weeks and basically the answer is:
not down enough and it won't seal properly; squished too low and the seal can become damaged and leak.
Best to use the tool and not take the risk.

You might check with your local marine shop they should have many of them laying around, they come with every kit.
