2007 2 hp honda....drive shaft

I would like to remove my drive shaft and spray it with silicone to help protect it from rust or pitting but not certain how to remove. If the oem manual is correct it says to remove the engine first but that's hard to believe that just to expose the shaft. Just trying to be proactive since I have seen some of these small motors with rusty shafts.
Any ideas? bf2dklch four stroke.
