Not sure there is a "spec" on end play for a propshaft. I'd bet that when that motor was new, there was 1/8" of forward and backward movement in it. Now that it's over 45 years old, I'd bet there is still 1/8" to 3/16" of forward backward movement. If there is more than that, you'll need to pull it apart and look at the whole assembly, espeacially the forward gear, thrust washer, and pinion.
