Alpha one gen one, trim works then stops happens in either directions, hit the button again and all you hear is the solenoid click, if you wait about 30 seconds not touching anything you hear a light click from the trim unit and then it works again, it seems like a thermal time out. If you start from full trim out to full trim down it gets almost the full way down then stops, wait till the click and then it works again, same for coming out almost the whole way then it stops, I cleaned all the connection from the switch to the unit, then all the solenoid connections and the grounds and positive lead, does this mean I need to rebuild the pump motor or is there a thermal switch I'm not seeing

There is a "thermal-overload protection" in the trim pump motors. Either your armature & brushes are worn out or you have very corroded pistons in the rams.

I am going to remove the end cap and replace it with brushes and clean it all out see if that solves the problem
