took the day off today to go fishing, met up with some younger guys who commented on my 1980 7.5 johnson...." gee ....thats an oldie!!" im thinking whaaa....an oldie?, that motor has one of dem fancy lectronic nitions ;p, and runs 50:1 , and only has one needle to adjust! sure its not like the shiny tohatsu hanging off their stern, but is a 32 year old motor an "oldie"? lol

Not if it's a JohnnyRude. They don't become oldies until they are 50 or so.

According to The Antique Outboard Motor Club (who decides), a motor over 30 years old is a "Classic". Manufactured before 1950 is an "Antique". "Vintage" is an e-bay word.

In e-bay terms vintage means its old and crappy but I want a lot of money for it anyway.

If the motor is older than you then it is vintage (at least it should be in your mind).

In Florida....I registered a boat over 30 years old as "antique". Saved me a little cash.

Sweet! Mines not vintage, just classic!

I have my Dad's 1946 Johnson 5 HP and it is not as old as me so even it is NOT vintage (in my mind). Sort of gives you an idea how old I am eh???? That motor is 65 years old and has never been apart except for tune-ups.

Classic is determined by age. The antique cutoff is 1952 - so a current classic will never reach antique status (unless the AOMCI changes the rules).

For boats, the antique cutoff is pre WWII.
