I have a 1972 Boston Whaler "Sourpuss Model. I bought the boat, motor, and trailer from the original owner and it's a fresh water boat. The gel coat is lightly oxidized with only a few minor dings. I have spider cracks on the inside of the hull at the usual stress points. I was wondering the best way to seal those. I plan to use a light polishing compound with a sherwood buffer to bring both the inside and outside of the hull to it's orginal glory. I thought about using gel coat repair thined out on a rag and wipe into the cracks, let cure then buff. Bad Idea or not.?

hi......welcome to iboats !

congrats on the boat !

sealing the cracks wont do.....they will just re appear in a short time.

they must be properly repaired.

this is on way to do it.

even though this is not my favourite way to do this repair.....it will last for several seasons.

the reason that it is not my personal choice.....is because that if the glass is cracked underneath the gell.....you will never know.
if the glass is cracked, the crazing will re appear.

i grind the whole area, repair the glass if necessary, then re gellcoat
