I'm going on a fishing trip a week from today. My Mercury 50 starts well, idles well after warming up, and runs pretty good. However while I'm cruising, it will suddenly, and very randomly lose power. Then later it will jump back up to full power....then drop again...then jump back up. Very random.
The bulb stays tight...and if I squeeze it when the power drops, it does not improve.
I'll be taking the boat out of the water and will have it at home for a few days. I was hoping to tackle the job myself, but am looking for ideas on where to start. I've worked on a lot of small engines over the years, including boat motors, and I have a repair manual to help.
Any ideas? Haha, I'm sure the list of possible problems will be a mile long...I'll probably start with checking electrical, getting a spark...and fuel lines (except the bulb stays so tight?)....??
