What year is my Johnson/Evinrude?

I have a 40 hp Johnson. The numbers I found inside on the quarter size "freeze plug" is: E40TECOB; below that was, G101271.

I want to inspect/change the impeller or water pump. Just getting started at owning and maintaining an outboard. Thanks.

looking like a 1985 tiller/electric start motor . evinrude tho.
