I everybody,I have a 1989 7.4 mercruiser. The boat had sat for 4 to 5 years.I had new carb installed new oil and filters including water seperator filter. The boat ran find on land.We put it the water last weekend and was idling around and it loaded up and died.when i got it to start again it back fired and fuel & oil mix came out of the hose from the valve covers. Can a fuel pump fill the crankcase up with fuel?I pulled the fuel pump off and took it apart and the rubber looks bad ? Can any body give me any ideas if this is the right direction? Also the engines compression is 165 average per cylinder.

Probably ought to replace anti-syphon valve while you got your wrenches out!

How could that possibly be a problem? You could remove the anti siphon valve and it won't put fuel in the engine oil.

To the original poster, are you sure it's fuel and oil? If it was, it should have blown the engine out of the boat with that much gas.

I would bet you are seeing milky oil, looking more like a milk shake than anything. If you do have milky oil, you have a cracked block and need to be looking for a replacement engine or block.

Well Don, the way I read the description, I must have assumed it was sitting static. If a diapram is that deteriorated, #1 How can this thing run? #2 What is stopping the fuel from running?
He said it was running but "loaded up & died", classic deluted oil! Doesn't have have to be water!
