I have a 2002 50hp merc 2 stroke with no fire to any of the 3 coils. I just bought this eng as is . Is there any common part that goes out to cause this. Thanks in advance.

First, disconnect the yellow/black stripe wire from the switch box and use a remote starter to see if you have spark.. If you do, you have a bad kill circuit in the controller...if nothing changes than either a switch box or stator is most likely the cause...they need to be checked..Also be sure the fuse is not blown which has happened to me...these motors are easy to work on once you understand the ignition systems...CDI has instructions on how to test the various ignition parts to save you from just throwing new parts at this motor. Let us know how you proceed.......

Is the switch box at the controls or onthe engine? Where can I find the CDI instructions? Thanks

Switchbox is on the motor, wires to the stator, trigger and each coil.

CDIelectronics web site, check the Support page, download the free Ignition Troubleshooting Guide.
