1995 Four Winns Horizon 200 with 5.0L Mercruiser cobra engine (This is a re-post, acccidently posted in OMC forum)
I have a 5.0L Mercruiser that was running well last season. I was getting it ready yesterday, and after changing oil and lower unit oil (engine oil a little over the full mark by 1/4 inch) it will not start. I have not changed the fuel separator filter as yet, and don't know if that can play into it. It will turn over, but not once has it kicked like it would start, just keep turning over. It is fuel injected and I did fail to put any Stabilizer in it last year, although it was essentially on empty when closing it down for last year. Any thougths? Thanks, Irish70

If you don't have gas, in the tank, the engine isn't going to start.

Do you hear the fuel pumps run for 2 seconds when you turn the key to the run position? Do you have spark? Did you put the kill switch lanyard in?

Ayuh,.... It Does,.... Inspect it's contents,... That'll tell ya whats in yer tank....

Then install a fresh filter...

A couple of things, I am quite the newbe, it is an OMC Cobra 5.0L, sorry for the confusion. The lanyard has been checked and is in place. I have not yet checked spark, but I did not hear the fuel pump run at all. Where would you start to check fuel pump? There is a square "relay", don't know if I should change that first? Also, is the water separator/fuel filter is clogged would that keep the fuel pump from running? Thanks for your help.

Post some pictures of your Mercruiser/Cobra. At this point who knows what you have. Engine and drive.

Thanks Don S. it is an OMC Cobra 5.0 with a King Cobra outdrive. I did a little checking after you stimulated my memory and I realized that the fuel pump did not run at first turning key. So I started with the minimum and changed the fuel pump relay, that was it, starts like a dream once again. Take care, Irish70
