i have a 92 evenrude 88 spl had the compression checked it was 115 on the left side on both cylinders and the right side was 85 on both cylinders. could this be a head gasket problem?
Left and right side differ if you're in the boat looking at the engine OR standing in back of it. That terminology can be confusing. Standing in back of the engine, looking at the spark plugs, the left side would be "Port" and the right side would be "Starboard".
You're stating a 30 psi difference in compression between banks. Remove the cylinder head in order to do an inspection.
