I've looked these forums over but still need help. My 1976 johnson 50 horse labors to get on plane once its up it's up it runs good it just struggles to get there. Ive changed props and pitces but no help. My last 50 would jump out of the hole i dont know whats going on. Oh by the way its on a 16 foot lowe roughneck very light boat. Maybe timing?

Sounds like it's starving for fuel to me. Has it been awhile since the carbs were cleaned and re-built?

Pull one plug wire off at a time when you have the prob and see if it's firing on both cyls.

its firing on both cylinders the damn thing just has no get up and go. this model has the big lower unit on it, the larger diameter shaft. whereas the old one had the small lower unit. I've not been able to find the sweet spot in it I want my old one back! but it slung apart hard. Does the size of that lower unit make a difference you think?
