Hi helping my brother with a 1976 25 hp Evinrude has no fire on #2. single driver coil ignition. He got the engine in this condition it had atom computer ignition. so we put new points and condenser in. checked coils wires and everything we could think of. still no fire. Have read the manual on this ignition still not understanding how it is suppose to work. (one power source that uses both points to make a complete circut?) Have disconnected wires at kill switch connectors and checked voltage very little on wire for #2 coil. Thanks for any help ideas or suggestion

have you tried swapping the No.1 and No.2 external coils to see if the problem follows the coil?...swapped condensers side to side to see if it follows the condenser?..same with point swap?...all I know about that system is one set of points grounds the other and at no time should both sets be open simultaneously...all grounding spots must be clean and tight...the fact that it fires one coil eliminates the driver coil as a problem < I think >

Thank you! Yes swapped the the wires at the coil connectors and the spark moved. swapped condensers, don't remember now if we swapped the points, pulled the timing plate and cleaned. I keep thinking the fact that it had this problem with the aftermarket electronic ignition is suppose to be some kind of a clue? The resistance readings (coils wires and connectors) seam to test out good, but the peak cranking voltage on wires out of the mag is about 5 vac on #1 and spikes to 5 vac and drops right off to about half a volt on #2 each time the engine is cranked. had this thing apart testing to many times had to take a break! If nothing else is the 2 driver coil ignition worth swapping over to provided i can find a good used set? Thank you for your help!!!

you swapped the wires at the coil connectors and now #1 has no spark, but #2 does?...if so, then one of the external coils needs replacing...

Re: no fire #2 76 25hp

did you replace the armature/timing plate?...the fact that it was worn and wobbly is probably why the ignition module was there..the point setting really goes haywire with a wobbly plate and, as I've come to understand from the forums, that ignition module isn't nearly as sensitive to variations
