Hello all electrical experts out there!!

I am in need of some advice.

My binnacle tilt trim switch began to not work in the up direction intermittently (hate that word). Sometimes it wouldnt work at all. I should point out that the trim switch on the engine has at ALL times worked fine.

I repaired some old corroded spliced wires from the handle wiring that I thought were the culprit. No change.
I changed the trim switch on the binnacle (was told by the wreckers that they were a common fault). No change.
I had a friend do continuity checks of all wiring/plugs and relays and then rewired all the way to the engine ...all good, but still no change.
We rigged up the binnacle switch plug to the engine switch plug (male to male) and it works.

My friend who is much more electrical savvy than me has said he would like to have a look at the wiring diagrams. I have given him the mastertech diagrams from the sticky at the forum header, but the closest that it has is a generic OMC system which isnt like what is on my engine (similar in some ways, but very different in others) he has started to do resistance checks on wiring now, but I would like to see if anyone has similar experiences or can suggest a likely culprit.

Any help much appreciated.
Daryl
