Motor ran hot and was not pushing water out the tube. Not sure if it was the thermostat or the waterpump, so I pulled the stat out and ran it for 30 seconds and it was ejecting water. Removed the lower unit and checked the impeller on the pump. looked brand new. Used an air compressor and blew out the line and reassembled the whole motor, including a new stat. Ran great on the muffs in the driveway, never got above 52 degrees C.
Took it to the lake and it stopped ejecting water about a mile from the ramp and shut down. Let it cool and got it back on the trailer. Never was putting out water again. Any ideas what else thie problem could be? Thanks

how old is this motor and when was last time the water pump replaced?

Are you saying it got hot enough to lock up?

1997. Not sure, bought it year before last. Did not lock up, still runs. Have run out of ideas as to why it isn't releasing water.

Re: 15 hp cooling issue

you said it shut down, not many things I can think of will shutdown motor
Lock up, run out of fuel, or loose spark. If it overheated enough to shut down by itself you probablly need to check compression to see if it hurt the cylinders

If you are talking about the tell tail indicator it can just plug up with stuff coming out of motor, like corrosion or rubber pieces from old impeller that fell apart maybe, does not mean it absolutely stopped pumping water, but if it overheated and shutdown then 1st thing is water pump
