I changed the water pump on my 2000 150hp johnson last year and the motor worked fine it sat all year and when I put it in the water this yr it would not go in to forward but it did go into reverse, I took the throttle and the gear linkage apart and adjusted the gear cable and put it all back but now when I gave it a test run I can't get the motor any higher that 3500 RPM with the throttle on full, I check to see if the cable was pushing the arm all the way up and it is its almost like at times it want to go then it just holds back and runs steady at 3500 rpm I cant get it to go any faster. what am I missing.

You could have a bad shift switch on it which will cut out 3 cyls. Or it's miss adjusted.

it does run smooth and sounds ok, I don't think its running on 3 cylinders, something is not letting it go to full throttle, and I just have to see how to adjust both cables without messing up the forward shift again. Thanks

one more thing, if the motor sat for a year would the old gas cause this problem even if I added new gas, and I'm going to start using the gas at the marina that has no ethanol, I have been using ethanol since I had the motor would this cause a problem.
