looking for a good motor

I have been on this forum for about a year restoring my 14' tom boy fiberglass boat. The hull is rated for a 35 hp motor i was wanting to possibly find a 25 hp motor and have no clue what i need to be looking for any input would be great Thanks

You can't go wrong with a JohnnyRude 25 from the 80s, varns.

Agree, the early to late 80s OMCs are bullit proof engines, they are simple a s stone to work on and run forever, I have an '81 50 Evinrude with the original powerhead and it still has 135-140 compression, they are in my opinion the last of the propery built engines, very little plastic and they were actualy made to last.

They are really good until you get to the mid 90s and later and the closer you get to 2001-2002 the worse they are, OMC was closing on bankrupcy and they were more worried about getting money in thier pockets by cutting corners than making a good engine, kinda sad.

Well i found a 25 hp johnson evinrude motor with electric start, extra power head for 350$ and it runs. Not sure on the year yet but i should know something soon my question is that a good deal and also what do i need to look for in shaft length my boat is a 14 ft tri hull the transom is 16" what do i need to know to be able to determine shaft length

Ok so this motor is a 76. 2 stroke with a short shaft. I know nothing about boat motor is it worth 350$

So im looking another motor its a 25 hp johnson year 86 for 800$ has a small hole in the lower unit buy or not???

$800 is what it's worth without the hole. So no.
