Hey guys

I need some help with my Mercury 40hp outboard motor not firing. I tested all batteries, fuses, and contacts but the starter motor doesn't seem to be getting power. That being said I feel it is a electrical issue. Is there is a way to run power directly to the starter motor to eliminate a wiring issue? The motor hasn't been started in a few months and I really want to get out and fish, PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for your help and tight lines
Ben

Take a set of jumper cables, centone. Hook from the battery + to the big stud on the starter and from battery - to the engine block. If the starter and battery are both good the starter should run full speed.

The most common cause of your symptoms is hidden corrosion in battery cables or their connections. Take both cables off, both ends, scrub the connectors shiny and reconnect.

Good luck. :)
