I have everything in place and ready to install my new hydraulic steering. Changed over from cables to Teleflex Pro Kevlar hydraulic hoses. The fittings are pre-installed on the ends.

What's the best way to run these through the hull and into the splashwell? In other words, after I drill the hole through the hull, what do I use to protect the hose as it passes through the hull?

I bought a couple of bulkhead strain relief kits but the hose fittings are too big to pass through the strain relief.

Thanks for helping,
Craig

You can get some vacume hose or heater hose from an auto parts store and cut a slit along the length of it and place it around the hole. You can glue it in but you shouldn't need to.

Hydraulic hoses should not move (since only the fluid is moving inside). Protect the hose by shielding it through the splashwell and everything should be fine. You just need to avoid abrading the hose.

The MOST expensive method is to have the hoses cut and attached with fittings and have a fitting installed in the spashwell.

About the same, but maybe a little more elegant - McMaster Carr (mcmaster.com) sells self gripping edge trim that you can put around the edge of the hole.
