Hello. I have a 140hp Evinrude V4 (approx 1979)
The motor has been starting beautifully. I tried starting it a few days ago and the starter motor began smoking (it was very old and needed replacing). I replaced the starter motor with a brand new one and it works great!!
However, now I CANNOT start the actual motor. When I turn the key, the motor does 'kick-over' but after approx 2 seconds it dies. This happens EVERY time. Motor will start for approx 2 seconds and then cut out.
Did I do something wrong with the wiring when I replaced the start motor?? I am pretty sure I put all the wires back in the correct place. What can be the problem??
