1986 50 hp Evinrude shift rod disconnect cant find it!!! s.o.s

Evinrude manual say "s to disconnect shift rod to remove lower unit i have looked behind the carbs not there. Removed starter to get a better look its not there! Model # is e50 belco Need help!!!!

Find your shift control cable(in the motor), it's connected to the linkage. Prob just hidden behind fuel lines.

Hi... I think the shift rod disconnect might be under the carburetors right in front of the powerhead seems like it could be a 5/8 inch head shoulder bolt to remove

Go to shop.evinrude.com and look up your mtr. Go to cyl and c/c and find item # 74, pull that and slide item #81 over to port. This will disconnect the upper shift linkage.

mine is a 1980 johnson 50hp to get to the bolt it is low on the powerhead underneath carbs. I had to remove starter motor (don't forget to disconnect battery first) to get access to it. my bolt was much smaller than 5/8 like 7/16 i think. anyhow if you have a helper move the linkage from forward to reverse while you stick your head under there you can see it move.

The shift rod disconnect on the '86 is different to '80.....

Blue, I just read your first post again and from the model # you show it's a 1985. Not 1986 as the heading says. Again, go to shop.evinrude.com and look at 1985 cyl/c/c and look at item # 74. It's the screw you take out for the upper shift link.
