Re: Bottom paint?

1) What are you using for Paint? (Manufacturer and specific type of paint. EG: Petit Hydrocoat, etc)

2) Is that paint made specifically for aluminum?

3) What does the paint manufacturer say about preparation and priming?

MOST paints recommened a primer of some kind. The paint manufacurer usually makes a primer and recommends thier primier be used. They also list the types of applications and when it is needed.

More info. is needed to accurately answer your question.

Re: Bottom paint?

If it's bare aluminum clean it with a 50/50 mix of viniger & water. Then give it a coat of self etching primer, and follow with 2 coats of bottom paint. If it has paint on it, lightly sand it, prime the bare spots, and hit it with bottom paint. MAKE SURE THE BOTTOM PAINT IS FOR ALUMINUM. Copper base paint will react with the aluminumand cause pinholes.

Re: Bottom paint?

If you're talking about antifouling paint, then Interlux Primocon for primer and Interlux Trilux 33 for the antifouling paint. Both are made for aluminum. Use the primer first and then bottom paint. Apply both according the directions on the can.
