800 thunderbolt wont idle long

I can pump the bulband get it to crank but it only runs 30-60 seocnds or so. Anyone know how I can check some things out so I only have to buy one part?... hopefully! 1970 model 80 HP. Any hints would be great.

Will it keep running if you keep pumping bulb? if so then rebuild the fuel pump.
