Oil to gas ratio

Not sure if my oil injection is working (VRO) on my 1988 Johnson GT150. I plan to put a mark on the tank to see if it drops, but for the time being, I want to mix the oil in with the gas. I know it will smoke and foul out the plugs, but its insurance. What ratio oil to gas should I be running? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Pre-mix 50:1 if the VRO is working you will be running 25:1 it will smoke a little but it won't the engine and you shouldn't foul the plugs considering that was the recommend break-in procedure when the engine was new.

I built a new engine and ran 40:1 with penzoil. I'd get about and hour of run time before fouling plugs. Never again!

Hey Wired, That should not have happened at 40::1. Did you have other issues with that motor?

I don't know if this helps, but for 5 gallons of gas use 12.8 oz of oil. That is 10 to 1. Although to me it sounds like it should be more oil.
