I recnently graduated from a 67 20hp to a 60 40hp
and on my first test run in the water i noticed while running the gas out of it to trailer it up while running its making a pretty good slick on the water seems to be spitting gas out of the exhaust.
is there possibly a return line clogged or something i dont understand the presence of all this unused $3.69 a gallon gasoline

the motor Model number RDSL-22
high compression head.

Correction.
The water discharge. The fuel seems to be coming from the water discharge
It didn't run strong when I got it but it seems to now. Haven't been back to the lake yet but it sure does muck up my 55 gallon test bucket

They'll spit out a lot of unburnt oil with the exhaust. That oil you mix with the gas has to go somewhere.

they do make a huge mess in a barrel...even a modern 2 stroke will make some mess in a barrell. it sounds like its just unburnt fuel/oil, which is very normal. running it on the water is a bit different .

My test barrel gets pretty nasty, especially running the old girls at like 10:1

Everything is dfferent at the lake.
I guess it just seemed like a lot but i usually run a motor half this size so I guess there's gonna be alot more of it with an older bigger motor

Rowboat motors from the early teens. I know alot of guys run them at 8:1! No mosquitoes in sight! :)

i run 50:1 just like it tells me under all my 60's johnson paraphnalia
even that seems to be a little smoky at times. i'd rather have too much than not enough any day

Re: Puttin money in the water.

There are conflicting reports on my motor cover
The black tag says after run in 1 pint of oil to 6 us gallons of gasolin (50:1)
underneath that it goes on to say
Fuel Mix 1 US Quart to 6 US gallons (24:1)

i guess ill play it safe and run 24 to 1

Re: Puttin money in the water.

Well the thermostat certainly seems to be opening up the water that comes out of the discharge is of the warm variety even at the lake.
But the electric choke never seems to stop choking in the bucket.
I haven't hwre it running long enough at the lake to see if it shuts off.
I'm not so confident that the automatic choke works
But then again I have no experience with automatic chokes
