Contaminated gelcoat with striper

I need some help with my mako 19 proyect, by mistake I apply antifouling striper in a large part on one side of my boat (over the gel coat) How I can clean that contaminated area to prepare and paint that side of the boat?

i would wash with acetone.

you could also acid wash with toilet bowl cleaner.

You only want to Paint one side of the boat ?? or do you just want to get rid of the AF paint that is on that side ?

Wash with Acetone ?? really ?? I mean . .. we dont even know what AF paint is on there LOL ..

Acid wash with TB cleaner ?? .. Is this how you personally take off AF paint ? ..

Just Wondering ...

Kinda need a little bit more info on what BP ..

he didnt say anything about AF paint.....just stripper....the AF paint is just a guess on your part.....i was refereing to the gellcoat alone

the poster asked how to remove the af stripper from gellcoat....what i posted will work with out harming the gellcoat

Ok, I'm gunna ask...the OP the obvious question. Why did you put the AF Stripper on the boat in the first place??? Next question...What is it exactly that you are trying to accomplish? If you give us these details, I'm sure we can come up with the appropriate response. But hey... I AM just an...

I use the antifouling striper to remove the old paint in the boat ( that I think is IMROM) after remove the paint I realize that I can't use that product for remove paint. I clean the area but the surface still contaminated.

use acetone or laquer thinner....

if you must....you can sand at 600 grit.....this will remove any surface contaminants....then re wash with acetone

That's kinda what I thought. Are you sure your hull is painted? It may just be Gelcoat? If it's just gelcoat are you trying to prep it to paint it? If so what kind of Paint are you going to be using? To get rid of the stripper I would use Xylol(Xylene) from Lowe's Don't leave it on too long and wear a mask. Really powerful solvent. Then wash her down really well with some TSP (Tri Sodium Phosphate) also from Lowe's. Scrub HARD with a stiff bristle brush. Have you considered trying to buff out the Gelcoat instead of Painting?

I should have read that better .. I naturally assumed that it was AF over gel. I dont know many times that someone put Stripper beyond the waterline. I do know of some that put AF paint above the waterline .. I just read it too fast and assumed he was talking about AF on his sides .. DOH !! My bad.

I am sorry for any language barriers that Might be going on in this thread ( there is no location that you put in when signing up ). ..

Are you trying to Remove a surface paint ( Imron ) ?? or are you trying to remove AF paint ??

Normally you can use soap and water to kinda remove acid stripper residuals .. but your still going to need to Sand and Prep your surface for New paint/primer to be applied.

I still (after I realized my fault on the OP) do not know what exactly your are trying to do..
