I have a 12' glass skiff and want to mount my 55# electric on the bow. I've reversed the head of course and until I decide to fork out $1000 for an iPilot this is going to be it. I also want the mount protruding above the gunnel to be removable.

This is a rolled gunnel boat so a direct clamp is out of the question. I've attached pictures below. The bow is at or very close to 90 degrees here.

My thought is to bolt some 6063 T2 1" x 1/2" x 1/8" extruded aluminum channel to the inside of the bow, then use a matching aluminum bar extending a few inches above the gunnel and bolt on a plywood mount for the motor. That way the mount would be almost resting on the gunnel and with two locking clevis pins be easily removable. The 42" shaft is adequate.

Questions:

1) do you think this is a beefy and stable mount?
2) how would you back on on the exterior? I am thinking a 1/8" aluminum plate running vertical from bolt to bolt.
3) got a better idea? I know if there's one there it will come from the iboat group!

Thank you. This is my first post and I'm looking forward to participating. Here are the pics:
