Regular old 85-90W marine gear oil.
It is not an electric or hydraulic shift gearcase.

yes only use marine grade gear oil. it contains water emulsifiers to help slow corrosion if water starts leaking in.

While you're getting your Marine Lower Unit Oil at Walmart, buy the small Hand Pump used just for that purpose, to pump the oil into the Bottom Drain Hole.

I agree 1000% with robert!!! It makes things much easier to thread into the port and pump away compared to squeezing oil out of a tube and maybe getting it all out.
