I'm trying to rebuild the lower end of my 57 RDE-19, I have a seal kit and in it is a o-ring (301877) and gasket (304764) that seal the shift rod. I cant get the old ones out, there is bushing that holds them in, is it a pressed in part and it so how do I get it out. I know it leaks so I have to do it and need help!!! Also is there a water pump kit I can get, I think I need one with a housing because the old one is pitted badly? Any help you can give me would be great, thanks.

Welcome!

The easiest way to remove the bushing is with a special tool that is the same diameter as the shiftshaft and has a slightly larger shoulder. The tool is inserted from the gearcase side then tapped out as the shoulder contacts the bushing with a few light raps of a hammer. The problem is, most people do not have the special tool. Some have fashioned such a tool with success. Your local evinrude/johnson dealer should have a pump housing and impeller or can be ordered. Perhaps they will remove the bushing for you if you purchase some parts??

Mas is right you need a tool... Others including myself have used a spade drill bit, But mine was on an 18hp motor not sure if it's the same with 35hp. Either way any medal shaft that will pass thru the bushing then get wider so that it will no longer go thru should do the trick. Ebay's a good place to look for water pump housing.

This tool is well worth the investment. I make good use of mine. Really, it's the only special tool needed to rebuild an OMC outboard. :D:D

Thanks you guys for the info, I went to a shop today and they used the tool and it popped right out. They were also able to get me a new water pump kit so I'm in good shape for now. Time to put the lower unit together and start work on the power head !!

Good news!

Make sure you pressure test the gear case upon reassembly or inspect the gear oil for water/milky oil several times during the first runs.
