Black Max (1986) won't accelerate

I have a 1986 150 hp Black Max that I bought at an auction. I replaced plugs. It starts and runs well for up to 10 minutes, then refuses to accelarate above 1200 rpm, sometimes dies, but starts right back up. Would this mean I need to clean or rebuild the carbs? When out of gear, it revs right up!

First check spark on all cylinders(strong blue spark).Check compression on all cylinders.Then check all fuel lines for leaks etc.Make sure water pump is good.Make sure Oil injection working.....Mercury Manual will be your best buy.
