You could also google your mercury model number 1020206 for your specific 1986 MERCURY 20 M if you would like to.My 20 hp outboard serial #A717260 doesn't come up when looking for parts. Any idea why or what serial # i should use instead?
For future reference, here is the note from mercurypartsexpress.com:
PLEASE NOTE: Finding parts using your engine serial number is the most accurate way of determining the parts for your specific engine. By not using the serial number, you risk ordering the wrong parts, and could result in extra shipping and restocking fees if the parts need to be returned to the selling dealer. For technical assistance on parts for your engine, please contact Mercury Technical Service at 920-929-5040. If you have a serial number (older models) with only seven digits, please use a zero in front of the serial number to find your engine. Typically the serial number will be a number (1 or 0), followed by a letter, then six numbers. Example - 1B123456
