Hey forum new to this site. My neighbor is selling his 2001 angler 22 foot boat with a 150hp yamaha or kawasaki engine. This will be the first boat i will purchase if i get it...I am 33 don't want to make a bad choice...the boat is immaculate always kept it covered and kept it on lad in the winter...comes with dept finder, tubs and gps and a few other items that i would not have to purchase....he's a cool neighbor that is moving out of the community..we live in a waterfront community. Just don't want to make a bad choice here can you guys please help...was looking at prices online they going for about 8,500 9,600. I text him those were the numbers i found out. It does not come with a trailer, it really does not matter because where we live they come to your house and put it in the water for you.....but if i wanted to get a trailer i am sure i can find one ....let me know what you guys think.....is it to old of a boat for me as being my first time purchasing one...glad to hear all feedback thank you guys i very much appreciate it...

If he kept it in great cond. then no, it's not to old. Does it have an hour meter? and can you take it out for a test drive?

Not sure about the hour meter, it has been on land for the last 3 years but he keep up with the maintance on it....tkae care motor clean it etc. took cover off always washed and took care or the bottom..taking it for a ride would be pretty hard right now because it's on land with no trailer....i can find someone with a trailer to take it for a spin....what do you think about the pricing on it....thanks for responding buddy..

Let me make a suggestion to you before you get too far along on this: go to a dealer and stand on the deck of a new boat. Feel how stiff the deck is and then go check the deck of the used boat for that same stiffness. Stand on every foot of it to check it.

My used boat came with a deck which is now being replaced in my second year of ownership. There was one place that was mushy back near the transom but it was covered by the jump seat/engine housing combination. The rest of the deck wasn't stiff but it wasn't mushy either. When I was having the mushy area attended to, they discovered the deck was bad all the way up to the instrument panel. Not as bad, but not good either. I'm getting it all replaced now. Lucky for me, my stringers are good.

You also want to pay close attention to the transom. Mine was rotted and I had that fixed last year after the boat almost sank on its first voyage (now you know why people insist on a test ride!).

I was warned by the good folks on this forum. These were all risks I took with my eyes open. I just hope you do better than I did. I didn't take that test ride either.

What you might consider doing is hiring a marine surveyor to check the boat out for you. Even if you don't know what to look for, his business is to know and advise. It would be money well spent.

by "on land" is that laying on the dirt or on a rack or blocks? Is it draining? If it's draining (plug out?) there shouldn't be any issues with floor/transom.

since "where we live they come to your house and put it in the water for you....." then get them to come and put it in the water for you.

I'm not sure what model it is but a 150hp might be a bit on the small side for a 22 foot boat.
Depends what you want to do with it though.

I know it's not alot of money, they come to the house put it in the water for you for the summer at my slip...have to pay for the slip than have to pay for them to put it in .....all in all if it turns out to be not a wise investment than look what i layed out for a ride.....i am trying to talk to him into letting one of my friends with a trailer take it out for theday and let see how it goes......that would be my best option....remember it's going to be my first boat so a little nervous not going to lie to anybody..i apprectiate the comments thanks alot..:)

My experience in life has led to me to this rule: Do not do business with neighbors or family!
